Required Knowledge and Skills:

The ability to interface with alternate delivery systems and non-traditional marketing arrangements is critical for this candidate and for the success of the Business Development Division. Consequently, the candidate needs to have a bias for action while remaining flexible and creative in looking for productive and profitable means to distribute the Group Division products and services. The candidate must possess good business judgment so as to be able to evaluate and underwrite, in general terms, the financial consequences of new and existing business arrangements. The candidate needs excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills in order to effectively interact with top management people at the various partner organizations.

The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree, and should be willing to pursue higher levels of insurance industry designations (CEBS, CLU, LLIF, etc.). A sales management background with at least 5-10 years of experience in the distribution and management of group insurance benefits is preferred. Knowledge of the dental and vision insurance and self funded markets along with the fundamentals of underwriting, actuarial, and reinsurance and administration functions of group insurance is also desired. The candidate must possess superior interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills.

Job Position Purpose:
Responsible for dental and vision sales, revenue, persistency, expense management , bottom line profitability and relationship building for Business Development’s current and future Strategic Alliances (SA’s), Special Marketing Arrangements (SMA’s) and other sales relationships of the Ameritas Group Division.

This position will coach, mentor and manage the current Ameritas Group Business Development sales team who support our SA and SMA partners to achieve our agreed upon sales, persistency and net growth goals. This includes key alignment with our Business Development Underwriting team who support our partners, as well as other key stakeholders and business units of Ameritas Group who provide resource development and support for our Strategic Alliance Partners.

This role is a critical component of our Business Development and Group Division growth strategies over the next five years.

Position Location and Reporting Structure:

This position will be located in Lincoln, Nebraska

Title of supervisor to this position: Vice President, Business Development, Group Division

Titles of those reporting directly to this position: TBD; however, the current Regional Vice Presidents, Managers,
Sales Account executives and Operations Account executives may report to the National VP of Business Development at a future date.

Essential Functions:

The emphasis of this position centers on the performance outcomes of assigned distribution growth from new and existing SA’s, SMA’s and other alternative distribution channels in Business Development.

By serving in this lead role between Ameritas and the partnering alliance’s sales force and home office staff, the candidate will need to effectively deliver and present business initiatives, product development, market research intelligence and pricing initiatives that will drive success. An additional key expectation of this position is delivering this business intelligence competently and effectively to high level executives of our current and future partners to help interpret our business needs and results.

Field calls with the Ameritas Business Development and partner sales teams will be expected from the candidate as needed to provide insurance brokers and producers the dental and vision product expertise and large case financial intelligence needed to win over the competition. The candidate will also identify existing partners that require unique restructuring and/or termination, and/or will respond to these requests from partners to ensure mutual business objectives are achieved wherever possible.

At times, this position will assist the Vice President of Business Development to locate and acquire new blocks of dental and vision business that may add new distribution channels to achieve the Group Division growth objectives.

Developing, implementing and managing the strategic business and development plans for the Ameritas Business Development sales team to achieve their personal and regional performance objectives will be critical. This includes managing the development of the assigned Operational Account Executives to ensure efficient operational procedures for current and future partners.

Equally important in this role is developing an effective, supportive and successful working relationship with the Business Development underwriting team, who are together and in agreement with the Business Development sales team in achieving the top and bottom line financial objectives and goals established for each partner.

This candidate will also need to strive and maintain “championship team” behavior with the direct reports of the President of the Ameritas Group Division and other corporate stakeholders, while developing strong working relationships with many levels of personnel in each strategic partnership. The individual will serve as a champion for each assigned partnering arrangement and is the liaison between each partner and Ameritas staff.

The candidate should actively participate in key employee benefit organizations and associations and maintain an industry network, to promote Ameritas and to network for possible future partnerships.
