      Integrated Biosystems Laboratory (IBC) at Intel Labs is a multidisciplinary team of Ph.D. level scientists and engineers focused on creating innovative solutions for biomedical applications. The team is composed of experts with backgrounds in molecular and cell biology, physical and bioorganic chemistry, biophysics, electrical engineering, business development and marketing, all working towards a common goal. IBL is focused on leveraging Intel's leadership in micro fabrication and microelectronics to create innovative systems and devices for diagnostics, DNA sequencing, and other biomedical applications.

      As an Instrumentation Engineer on the team, you would participate in initiating the design, development, execution and implementation of scientific research projects to fuel Intel's growth in the areas of computing, communication, technology and manufacturing and new business opportunity. You would investigate the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products typically 7+ years prior to landing on a product roadmap. Responsibilities include: Planning and executing laboratory research while maintaining substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories and contributes to scientific literature and conferences. You may participate in development of intellectual property and could coordinate interdepartmental research efforts and activities.

      Qualifications
      You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through relevant previous job and/or research experiences.

      Minimum qualifications
      - Must have a MS or PhD in Physical Sciences or Engineering disciplines: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
      - Minimum 1 year of experience at the PhD level or 3 years at the MS level in the following skills sets:
      - Matlab, LabVIEW and/or SolidWorks
      - Designing and executing experiments, as well as interpret data using statistical analysis tools
      - Designing, assembling and troubleshooting microfluidic delivery systems; particularly for automated handling of buffer solutions with biomolecules (proteins, DNA)
      - Designing, assembling, automating and troubleshooting custom measurement and data collection systems towards developing electronic sensor platforms
      - Electronics, device physics, and/or biochemistry as well as experience with electronics (designing and assembling PCBs) and using basic machining tools (drills, mills)
      - Electrochemical measurements
      - Setting up and maintaining small-scale computer networks

      Preferred qualifications
      - 3+ years of experience in the above skill sets for either degree

In this position, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team in Intel Labs focused on developing integrated platform technologies for biomedical applications. Your responsibilities will include and not be limited to - Serving as primary point of contact for custom experimental measurement systems in group - Engaging with engineers and research scientists to define process requirements or constraints for an integrated system for biosensor applications - Process and method development and developing corresponding detailed documentation for use by others - Building measurement setups from scratch, troubleshooting measurement equipment, designing and assembling basic PCB boards - Optimizing an existing microfluidic fluid delivery system and redesigning according to user needs - Writing LabVIEW codes, automating measurement equipment using LabVIEW, designing and building interface boards, controlling/automating existing equipment thorough GPIB/RS232 communication protocols - Working closely with other team members towards a common goal, and interface to internal and external partners such as external labs and foundries for refining system architecture requirements and/or process development - Participating in planning, contribute to intellectual property and scientific publication - Reporting progression and sharing other responsibilities as assigned The ideal candidate should exhibit behavioral traits that indicate: - Excellent written and oral communication skills - Proactive problem-solver - Independently resourceful and a team-player - Critical thinking and analysis skills - Comfort with ambiguity
