Claremont Graduate University is seeking an energetic, outgoing, self-starter for the Development Associate position. While previous development experience would be a plus it is not required, and thus this could be a perfect entry level opportunity for someone looking for a career in development. This individual will report to the Assistant Vice President of Advancement and will meet with a wide variety of university constituents to further the mission of the Office of Advancement and CGU. This position will also manage the Fellowship program.

Primary Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Work closely with the Assistant Vice President of Advancement to undertake one-on-one visits with prospects, donors and alumni, typically off campus, requiring frequent travel.
  • Will personally cultivate, solicit and steward gifts.
  • Track and record activities as they relate to assigned prospects using fundraising constituent management software and report regularly to the Assistant Vice President of Advancement.
  • Manage the Fellowship program.
  • Working with the Director of Advancement Operations, plan and execute the yearly Fellowship luncheon.
  • Participate as an active member of the Office of Advancement, sharing information and collaborating with colleagues in a respectful and professional manner; contributing to a healthy and positive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of CGUs development mission.
    A Bachelors Degree is required. Masters is preferred (Additional education may substitute for experience) or any combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and ability. Must have three or more years related experience working in a college, university, non-profit or corporate environment. Experience in Development would be a plus but it is not required. Preference will be given to those with experience at CGU, either as employee or student. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Strong writing skills are required. Ability to work with diverse groups of people. Must possess strong listening skills and superb follow-up skills. Ability to exercise judgment and maintain confidentiality on a wide spectrum of topics and issues for which discretion is required. The ability to handle multiple tasks and projects and maintain a fluid concept of priorities. High level of professionalism in both appearance and demeanor. Qualified candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and e-mail systems.
