Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful candidate, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy.
As part of a team, the successful candidate will provide engineering support for electric substation and transmission projects. The work may include:
Attend substation project kickoff meeting to help fully develop the project electrical scope of work.
Create or revise substation single-line, three-line, relay and metering drawings, AC and DC relay and SCADA schemes.
Perform engineering analysis and calculations in order to provide design options and recommendations. Create and order BOM’s.
Perform fault study calculations. Create protective relay recommendations and settings.
Manage contracted engineering services to ensure compliance with standards, specifications, and contract requirements.
Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analyst and resolution of problems in area of expertise.
Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
Manages multiple projects, providing detailed monthly schedule update reports.
Strives to continually improve job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintain accurate records and files.
Supports the company’s goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Candidate has received a passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam (EIT).
Basic understanding of power system protection theory and application including design, testing, commissioning, and analysis.
Knowledge and interest in substation SCADA, and substation communication networks which include both serial and Ethernet based devices.
Proficiency in AutoCad or Microstation is a plus.
Understanding of basic principles of project management.
2+ years experience in substation electric controls engineering.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
