General Description of Position:|
Shall function as the responsible Substation Engineer on assigned projects and provide overall project coordination or field engineering supervision. Perform a substantive role in the substation design and preparation of specifications or field engineering related to assigned engineering projects. Experience in designing air-insulated, outdoor substations 345 kV (phase-to-phase) and below is required. Prior utility experience is a plus.
Essential Functions of Position:
Design various substation systems of varying size and complexity. Activities may include, but not be limited to, the following:
a) Preliminary designs and budgetary estimates.
b) Detailed designs and estimates.
c) Equipment specifications, proposal evaluations and requisitioning.
d) Engineering calculations to assure safety and performance of equipment and systems.
e) Coordinating equipment delivery and design engineering to meet construction schedules.
f) Coordinate work with other disciplines and/or offices to ensure project requirements are consistent.
g) Gather or acquire on-site measurements and other data to accomplish the design or enable the evaluation of equipment performance.
h) Checking completed job for adequacy of design and documentation.
Monitor the construction of various electrical systems as assigned to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Activities may include, but not be limited to, the following:
a) Monitor construction work to assure conformance with plans and specifications.
b) Monitor work to assure compliance with applicable engineering and construction codes and practices.
c) Monitor construction schedules to ensure timely completion of the work.
d) Direct changes to the work when requested by the Resident Engineer.
e) Aid in receiving, inspection, and approval of equipment and materials.
f) Act as Resident Engineer, when required, on projects of moderate size and complexity.
Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives.
Prepare reports and feasibility studies for submission to management.
Serve as project coordinator, project engineer, or project manager on assigned projects.
Shall promote efficient flow of information and ensure complete and accurate record keeping.
Be familiar with the Company’s drawing system, industry standards, National Electric Safety Code, and the Company’s design and construction standards.
Shall keep informed of current developments in the area of responsibility.
May assist in the professional development, training, and evaluation of department personnel.
Perform other duties as required.
Shall have progressive experience in the field of Substation Engineering in positions requiring a high degree of responsibility and independent work. Ten years of experience in the electrical engineering field is preferred. Shall possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent experience. Ability to attain professional registration is preferred.
