Operates and maintains various pieces of heavy motorized equipment used in maintaining roads and bridges including a bush-hog and side-mount mowers for removing trees and clearing right-of-way. Operates slope mowers and/or batwing mowers, bush-hog, and side mount mowers. Flags and directs traffic in work zones to protect the workers, the public, and equipment during mowing operations. Operates standard dump trucks and flatbed trucks for hauling materials. Operates standard dump truck with a snowplow attachment and sand spreader to remove ice and snow from the highways and bridges. Conducts and documents pre-operation vehicle/equipment inspection. Operates chain saws in cutting trees on DOT right-of-way. Assists in emergency operations when crew is in an “On Call” status after hours, weekends, and holidays for all road emergencies including inclement weather, snow and ice, or hazardous road conditions and accidents. Trains in the operation of a backhoe in cleaning ditches.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
10th grade education and two and one-half (2.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). (Note): This position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License. However, applicants without a Class A Commercial Driver’s License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class A Commercial Driver’s License are available.
Class A Commercial Driver’s License must be attained within six (6 months) of placement in the position.
