Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

This position is being recruited for at the Contributing Competency Level under the Career Banding program. The hiring range for this position is $30,888-$37,512 and the salary grade equivalent is 63. ************************************************************************************************************************************************ POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Operations Manager is responsible for the oversight of the 160,000 square foot Carolina Union/Frank Porter Graham Student Union Building as well as the Student Academic Service Building (SASB) operations. Oversight includes programs, services and facility usage. The building manager is responsible for event and meeting set-up and breakdown as well as the security and safety of building and event patrons. The incumbent also hires, trains, supervises and evaluates approximately 50 part-time student staff in the Operations department in partnership with the evening Operations Manager. This position will responsible for observing and reporting all maintenance, repairs and housekeeping issues in the SASB buildings. This position will also serve as a liaison with facilities services, housekeeping, and other related campus offices with regards to the Union and SASB. This position will keep building occupants informed of policies and procedures that affect day-to-day operations of the Carolina Union and SASB. This position's work schedule is M-F 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., with alternating weekend shifts and occasionally evening work as required. ESSENTIAL SKILLS: The selected candidate must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and must be able to work well under deadlines. The ability to make effective and critical decisions and to communicate with above average proficiency in a written and verbal manner is required. Knowledge regarding financial and budgetary management is essential to the position, as is the ability to clearly assess needs and promptly address them and follow up. The ability to work effectively with a diverse clientele including students, faculty and administrators is required. The selected candidate must have demonstrated customer service and training experience, and he/she must have experience with tracking and maintaining inventory. The demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

A background working in a Student Union environment is highly recommended. Previous experience supervising and training student employees in areas of facilities management and customer service is preferred, as is working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite. The ideal candidate will have experience with an event management system such as EMS or R25, and he/she will have the ability to assess and plan for current and future departmental needs.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements:

This position may be required to perform strenuous physical labor on occasion, as determined by event demand including moving or supporting heavy loads.
