Position Title: Senior Consultant, Spend Management
Business Unit: Strategic Accounts, Spend Management Services
The Senior Consultant, Spend Management will provide on-site project management support for the execution of Cardinal Health Spend Management Services. The position will facilitate cost reductions for the customer by maximizing use of data analytic tools and processes. This position will work with the Director of Spend Management to develop, facilitate, and document savings initiatives for the customer relative to spend management optimization. The Senior Consultant of Spend Management may do so under the day-to-day direction of Cardinal Health management or the management of one of its contracted partners.
Specific Duties, Activities and Responsibilities
Work on day-to-day project and account management issues involving spend optimization.
Track and maintain savings initiatives. Utilize analytic tools to research, develop, and track savings.
Assist facility in identification, execution, implementation, and audit tracking of spend optimization initiatives.
Assist the customer in identifying and coordinating the resources necessary to review and implement savings initiatives.
Support the Director of Spend Management's efforts to ensure that all key stakeholders at the client and network levels are identified, communicated to and managed.
Coordinate timelines for implementation of the spend optimization project.
Participate in business reviews with the customer to update and document savings. Facilitate client interaction relative to project initiatives in order to deliver savings.
Work with the customer to develop non-contract savings opportunities.
Participate/assist in coordinating vendor fairs and reverse auctions.
Coordinate necessary clinical resources to facilitate and implement savings initiatives.
Maintain accurate savings documentation in support of fees to be billed to the customer.
Education or equivalent:
BA or BS in business, logistics or health care related field or 7 -10 years of relevant experience required
Experience leading a materials management function within acute care setting, supply chain experience,
clinical/nursing experience, or healthcare industry business management experience required
Strong understanding of the hospital environment required
Experience in identifying and implementing expense reduction opportunities in either an internal or
external consulting capacity preferred
Previous contract negotiation experience preferred
Experience in project management preferred
Knowledge and skills requirements:
Strong project management and communication skills are critical in this role. Strong information systems
skills are needed. Ability to understand complex relationships within the hospital environment and
knowledge of hospital/healthcare are required.
Proficient in the use of MS Office and various MMIS applications as related to supply chain and project
management concepts and tools
Strong analytical and communication skills
Ability to work well with minimal direction and as a member of a high performance team
Ability to adapt to change, learn new skills, and work with general guidance
Ability to identify and overcome obstacles with clients
Ability to successfully lead projects of significant size and organization span
