Under the general direction of Nursing Leadership, Director of Education, Professional Development and Nursing Research or Vice President Operations/Chief Nurse Executive or Administrative Director of Nursing, and within established Catholic Medical Center and departmental policies and procedures and all applicable laws, the incumbent is an education and professional development specialist, consultant and coach, and acts as a facilitator and leader within the organization.
Nurses as Teachers Consistently demonstrates the ability to meet the annual and ongoing educational needs of the assigned clinical specialty areas and/or programs as evidenced by the following: Utilizes various methods for identifying competency and preceptor needs of the assigned clinical specialty areas and/or programs staff as a whole, as well as for individual staff members. In collaboration with nursing leadership and Department of Education (DOE) assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the unit competency program for assigned clinical specialty areas and/or programs. Oversees completion of mandatory education requirements, ensures deadlines are met and records of education are processed by the DOE including, but not limited to BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP as appropriate. Works closely with nursing leadership, unit preceptors and mentors, to develop and evaluate comprehensive individual orientation programs for new employees. Acts as a coach, mentor and resource by meeting with him or her regularly to evaluate progress. In turn, makes recommendations and provides orientee with needed resources/ experiences as applicable. Provides education and in-services on policies and procedures and participates in the evaluation of healthcare equipment and products making appropriate recommendations. In collaboration with Director of Education, Professional Development and Nursing Research, develops annual educational Needs Assessment and promotes staff completion organization wide. Assesses, coordinates, plans, implements and evaluates mandatory ongoing education activity and learning experience based on staff evaluations including, but not limited to, Captivate and CEU programs. Assists in the investigation, development, and implementation of new programs and certifications within CMC. Collaborates with nursing leadership to develop remedial educational programs. Evaluates need for educational/reference materials to foster staff growth using resources in a cost effective manner. Uses Sim Lab as appropriate to measure annual competency for assigned clinical specialty areas and/or program as appropriate. Integrates Watson’s Theory of Caring into professional practice development and teaching programs. Works closely with staff and/or students to develop competency as a bedside teacher. Contributes to the evaluation of nursing staff performance.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Master's Degree in nursing preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years clinical experience.
• Experience in clinical teaching preferred.
• Current registration in the State of NH as a Registered Nurse.
• BLS Instructor Preferred
• ACLS Instructor Preferred
• NPR Instructor Preferred (The Mom’s Place and Special Care Nursery)
• Certification preferred.
