Job Description

Gore Medical Products has provided creative therapeutic solutions to complex medical problems for 35 years, saving and improving the quality of lives worldwide. As a leading manufacturer of vascular grafts, endovascular and interventional devices, surgical meshes for hernia repair, and sutures, we are looking for a Design and Automation Engineer to join our team in Sunnyvale, CA.

The ideal candidate will:

Responsibilities include:
  • Generating parametric and 3D CAD models, parts, assemblies, and drawings using Solidworks
  • Interpreting equipment, tooling, and fixture requests and developing design specifications
  • Programming equipment using Excel and in-house software
  • Designing and documenting automated, semi-automated, and manual manufacturing equipment, test equipment, fixtures, and tooling per quality system requirements
  • Troubleshooting and upkeep of safe R&D, test, and manufacturing equipment
  • Understanding supplier capability and participating in qualification of new equipment and tooling suppliers
  • Establishing and driving appropriate inspection techniques for equipment, tooling and fixtures
  • Designing, building, and testing prototypes
  • Executing projects to completion within time and cost estimates
  • Reviewing designs for consistency with standard practices
  • Writing and performing validations of processes and equipment in accordance with quality system requirements as well as FDA and ISO guidelines
  • Documenting work in accordance with quality system requirements via technology notebooks, work plans, validation protocols / reports, and design file entries

Qualifications

Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in equipment / tooling and mechanical design
  • Solid knowledge of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply this knowledge to development and manufacturing equipment design and usage
  • Advanced capability with Solidworks
  • Working capability with PC based programming language
  • Knowledge of common machine-shop practices and capabilities (Vertical Mill, Lathe, Basic CNC programming)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to take a hands-on approach through all phases of tooling / equipment design projects
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Prioritize, initiate, and drive projects to completion
    • Work effectively in team situations as well as independently
    • Network and interact effectively with a broad range of associates spanning varied disciplines and responsibilities
    • Travel periodically – approximately 10%
