Tour of Duty: Adjustable - Part-Time (40hrs)
This position is located in the Plastic Surgery Section, VA ECHCS. This position provides support to the Chief of Surgery Service in carrying out the mission of the service and VA Medical Center.
Candidate must be willing to work weekends, irregular work hours and extended hours . The candidate must be willing to be placed, detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary.
Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.
Must pass pre-employment examination.
Designated and/or Random Drug Testing required.
Background and/or Security Investigation required.
English Language Proficiency required.
The Plastic Surgeon will be responsible for:
- Analyzing patients medical history, medication allergies, physical condition, and examination results to verify operations necessity and to determine best procedure.
- Prescribing preoperative and postoperative treatments and procedures, such as sedatives, diets, antibiotics, and preparation and treatment of the patients operative area.
- Examines patients to provide information on medical condition and surgical risk.
- Follows established surgical techniques during operations. Operates on patients to correct deformities, repair injuries, prevent and treat diseases, or improve or restore patients functions.
- Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary. Examines instruments, equipment, and operating room to ensure sterility.
- Prepares case histories.
- Provides consultation and surgical assistance to other physicians and surgeons.
- Ensures personal qualities such as emotional stability, dependability, positive relations with VA and DOD staff and community, adherence to ethical standards, eliciting cooperation, attendance/participation in clinic meetings and peer councils.
The Chief, Plastic Surgery Independently provides clinical services to eligible Veterans. Services are provided within the VA-Eastern Colorado Health Care System at the Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center and surrounding clinics, in outpatient and inpatient Medical Center programs, significant others, community agencies and providers, and other staff.
- Oversight of Plastic Surgery Section consisting of the equivalent of 2 full-time physicians and nurses.
- Responsible for the direct supervision of Plastic Surgeons, Physician Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioners, and Registered Nurses.
- The Joint Commission and CARF preparation and accreditation.
- Quality assurance and performance improvement.
- Physician and nurse practitioner per review.
- Budget and resource requests.
- Wait lists and access to clinics.
- Mandatory staff training.
- Employee satisfaction.
- Serve on ECHCS Medical Center committees.
The Plastic Surgeon is responsible for the teaching of residents and medical students, as well as responsible for oversight of the care provided residents and students. Plastic Surgeons will participate in the administration of programs, committees, and other staff functions as delegated by the Chief of Surgery Service.
The Plastic Surgeon will be expected to hold an appointment in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine and comply with rules and regulations related to said appointment. The provider should expect to participate in faculty committees, residency training.
1. Citizenship : Must be a citizen of the United States.
2. Education : Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
3. Licensure and Registration : Physician applicants must have a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
4. Board Certification/Board Eligible : Practitioner should be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists or a Diplomat of the Board, or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
5. English Language Proficiency : Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d)
