Job Category: Full-time/Exempt Department: Marketing and Creative Services Job Category: Full-time/Exempt Job Summary: The Associate Director, Marketing collaborates with the Director of Marketing and Creative Services, assuming leadership in and responsibilities for the development and implementation of AACR’s strategic marketing plans and tactics in the promotion of the Annual Meeting, Workshops and Special Conferences, membership, development, and other AACR departmental initiatives through direct mail, advertising, the Internet and other marketing channels. The Associate Director, Marketing develops and manages marketing budgets and partners with the Director in staging organizational marketing activities and internal communications. Additionally, the Associate Director, Marketing takes a hands-on but strategic management approach to meetings and exhibits marketing. Reporting to the Director, the Associate Director, Marketing works closely with AACR’s Chief Executive Officer, Senior Management team and the prestigious Board Directors to strategically create, articulate, and implement the future marketing programs of the Association.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: Designs, implements, sustains and evaluates a sophisticated marketing strategy consistent with the AACR’s unique mission and values. Applies this strategy in the promotion of AACR’s meetings, programs, membership, development, public policy, and awards via print, direct mail, and web-based methods of marketing. Develops both strategic and tactical marketing plans and budgets with the Director of Marketing and Creative Services and with the CEO. Directs and manages events calendar and plans ahead to ensure that timely, cost-effective and appropriate marketing is done.
Works synergistically with members of the communications department to promote and build awareness of AACR activities and events, coordinating a consistent message throughout. Works collaboratively with AACR’s management, graphics staff and vendors to develop and implement the organization’s marketing materials, both in print and on the web. Directs and supervises staff and manages advertising campaigns, both domestically and overseas for the AACR. Writes copy, manages production, and analyzes results.
Develops and maintains an understanding of the cancer community, particularly with respect to member needs, scientific trends, and competitive meetings. Travels to approximately 8-10 scientific meetings per year. Conducts overall management of all AACR exhibit booths at these meetings. Sets exhibition goals and reports on results.
Delegates tasks to subordinates, in order to utilize staff to their maximum potential. Establishes goals in a collaborative manner to ensure that individuals have a sense of responsibility and ownership for the successful outcomes of the Association. Analyzes organizational structures for marketing to assure coordination and productivity, to enhance, communication, and to promote collaboration. Performs the essential functions of the position, and other responsibilities and projects as may be assigned by the Director.
