AREA MAINTENANCE MANAGER

Administrative supervisory management work directing the personnel performing maintenance and repair operations of county roadways and associated infrastructure in an assigned maintenance area(s). Coordinates the daily operational functions of the assigned maintenance unit(s) with other Sections in the Division and other maintenance units.
Plans, directs, supervises, and evaluates the work of personnel engaged in the maintenance and repair of county roadways and associated infrastructure within a maintenance area(s). Inspects county roadways and associated infrastructure to evaluate and determine maintenance repair needs of road surfaces, shoulders, structures and drainage facilities. Oversees the planning, laying out, maintenance, repair and installation of roadway, shoulders, structures and drainage facilities (i.e.: ditches, culverts, storm sewers). Ensures that necessary materials, equipment and personnel are available for projects and that work proceeds according to plan and schedule. Investigates and reports major problems, deficiencies or citizen complaints to supervisor. Receives and responds to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding roadway maintenance and repair operations for the assigned area(s).
Directs, supervises and/or assists with budget preparation, record keeping, reporting and accounting of materials, equipment and parts, personnel and project cost. Writes justification for project cost over-runs and under-runs. Confers with other supervisors regarding work needs, problems and other project requirements. Responsible for administering the county policies, processing of hiring, counseling, discharging, promotions, transfer recommendations, appraisal performance evaluations, and other related county administrative operational personnel policies and procedures for assigned staff.
Performs related duties as required.
K NOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Managerial and administrative knowledge of the methods, operating rules and equipment for construction and maintenance operations associated with roadways and associated infrastructure. Knowledge of the types and uses of tools and equipment used for construction and maintenance operations associated with roadways and associated infrastructure. Knowledge of basic plan and map reading techniques. Ability to understand, interpret and effectively carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to see, ambulate independently, drive, bend, stoop, sit and stand.
Ability to work in all weather and environmental conditions (i.e.: sun, rain, cold, swamp, ditches, dirt and hot asphalt). Ability to sit for long periods. Ability to concentrate on detail and sequential work tasks.
Ability to research, investigate, experiment, detect, inspect, verify, recognize, and recommend solutions. Ability to lift minimum of forty five (45) pounds weight. Ability to plan, assign, schedule, review and supervise, effectively, the work of labor forces. Ability to establish an effective working relationship with employees, officials and the public. Ability to prepare a budget and work within it. Ability and knowledge of effective supervisory techniques necessary for directing employees. Ability to use good judgment in administrative and personnel situations.
M INIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and have a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the maintenance and construction of roadways and associated infrastructure; which included four (4) years as a supervisor/foreman/manager of which two (2) years included project management, planning/scheduling of work tasks and oversight of an operating budget. Must possess a valid Florida driver's license at the time of employment within this classification. A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

WORK SCHEDULE: 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday
HIRING RATE : $44,616.00 - $54,828.00 (Pay Grade 25)
