Job Description:
The Senior Automation Engineer will provide leadership
in the design of electrical systems, and process
controls. The successful candidate will possess an in
depth knowledge of electrical design , automation system
design, current technologies in PLC’s, motor controllers
(AC, Servo), human machine interface design, Industrial
Networks (Ethernet/IP, Device Net, ControlNet, AS-i),
distributed I/O and operating systems. Skilled in new
equipment commissioning and high efficiency start up
procedures. This is a fast-paced plant based position.
The successful candidate will leverage their previous
engineering and automation leadership / CPG
manufacturing experience in the development + execution
of a variety of challenging projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Able to learn, understand, and analyze the
manufacturing processes at Sun Products
  • Performs Automation System evaluations, determines
automation strategy as well as hardware / software
requirements. Assists with the development of the
Automation Master Plan for Sun
  • Develops schematic and equipment layouts drawings
  • Participate in the development of highlighted P+ID’s
as well as Functional Analysis documents
  • Develops project definition documents including Scope
of Work, Cost Estimate, and Schedule
  • Develops RFQ / RFP Specification documents for
equipment, installation of equipment, as well as the
design and construction of automation systems
  • Creates and manages standard procurement related tasks
(PO’s, invoices, project close, etc)
  • Participates in Design + Risk Reviews, Hazard and
Operability (HAZOP) studies, etc
  • Links with other Process, Packaging, and Manufacturing
Engineers for Design Standards
  • Able to assist with the training of technical / non
technical personnel (Maintenance / Operators /
Supervisors / etc) in proper operation of new processes
and equipment.
  • Able to supervise electrical contractors during the
installation and start-up phases of a project
  • Able to supervise and collaborate with internal and
external Draftspeople / Engineers / Programmers to
develop drawings, designs, PLC code
  • Assists with the development, review, and enhancement
of SOP’s
  • Participates in the testing, troubleshooting, and
qualification of new equipment / processes.
  • Identifies areas for improvement (safety, cost and
waste reduction, efficiency improvement, simplification,
etc) which support short-term and long-term goals of Sun
Products
  • Enforces Sun Products requirements for Safety and GMP
with contractors, vendors, and Sun Associates so as to
create a safe work environment for all.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Engineering
Manager or requested by the Plant Leadership Team.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering strongly
preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience as a PLC programmer or
leading programmers
  • Strong knowledge of Rockwell PLC products, some
experience w/ Siemens or Toshiba
  • In depth knowledge of industrial networking:
Ethernet/IP, Device Net, Control Net, As-I
  • Knowledge in PackML and OMAC Standards
  • Design level experience with System development
(planning, designing, implementation and post
implementation)
  • Knowledge of Plant wide automation architecture
  • Knowledge of Electrical Cabinet Design
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code as well as
state and local electrical codes.
  • Programming - RSLogix 5000, Kinetix Servo Drives,
Factory Talk View-SE
  • Hands-on understanding of instruments and is able to
use test equipment.
  • Prefer at least 2 years of experience in a
manufacturing environment
  • Sound knowledge of engineering theory and design
criteria.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills,
organized, self motivated for excellence, has a high
standard of performance expectation of self, works
effectively in teams.
  • Ability to work with AutoCAD, MS Office products,
calculation software, etc
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Able to support projects at other Sun Products
