SUMMARY:
The
purpose of the First-Year Experience Coordinator is to assist the School of
Music in the recruitment and retention of music majors. The coordinator will help identify potential
students by representing the unit at state and regional music conventions,
college fairs, high schools, community colleges and other university recruiting
events. The coordinator will assist
prospective music students with the School’s application and audition
processes, maintain regular contact with potential music students and provide
assistance to enrolled music students by actively tracking their academic
process through the critical first year of music study. This person will also oversee the creation of
marketing materials that highlight the academic and performance opportunities
in the School of Music. A First-Year
Experience Coordinator is essential in assisting the School of Music in
maintaining excellence within our program by increasing our effectiveness of
recruiting the finest students possible to the University of Tennessee.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
Recruits,
advises and counsels potential students and parents regarding School of
Music application and audition procedures, including potential scholarship
opportunities. (25%)

Represents
the School at music-specific, recruitment-related activities at high
schools, community colleges and other music related events/conferences to
recruit potential Music majors

Oversees
the creation of marketing materials that highlight the academic and
performance opportunities in the School of Music. (5%)

Organizes
student auditions and other on-campus recruiting activities, communicates
necessary information to students and parents, maintains student
recruitment files and provides information to faculty members on potential
majors. (20%)

Interprets
procedures and supervises the progress of 1

st

year students
through the admission process and application procedures/deadlines. (25%)

Tracks
the academic progress of 1

st

year students and keeps the
faculty up to date on the progress. (10%)

Create
basic analysis of School of Music admissions and retention data. (5%)

Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:
Prior
experience in related fields preferred.
Applicants with a marketing and/or public relations background are
encouraged to apply.

Job

Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills. The applicant should have strong
interpersonal skills and experience in dealing with a wide-range of
people. A background in music or a
related arts field within an academic setting is desirable. Knowledge and use of databases, spreadsheets
and social media is strongly desired. Occasional overnight travel will be
necessary.
