The State University System of Florida (SUS) Office of the Board of Governors is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Educational Policy Analyst within the Academic and Student Affairs (ASA) unit. ASA provides support and oversight to 12 state universities via collaborative policy development and analysis, data collection, research, and strategic planning for issues that affect the SUS. Additionally, ASA staff members work closely with the Board of Governors and university colleagues, as well as other educational, governmental, business, and community partners, to address related concerns and opportunities that rise to a System level of interest.
Examples of responsibilities, duties, and activities may include, but are not limited to:
•Conduct academic and student affairs policy analyses for university degree program proposals and budget requests, legislative bills, administrative regulations, and special reports;
•Conduct research on state and national higher education issues;
•Analyze data and prepare statistical reports and assessment materials;
•Provide direct customer service to constituents of the Board of Governors and SUS, including students and their family members, and staff of state universities, other education sectors, and the Legislature.
•Prepare materials, presentations, and agenda items for review and action by the Board of Governors, its committees, and project teams;
•Serve as liaison to state university academic and student affairs groups, and other education sectors, as needed;
•Monitor activities of state/regional/national education agencies and organizations, and represent the Board of Governors, as appropriate.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
•Ph.D. or other terminal degree in higher education, public administration or a related field with 1 year of directly related experience, or a Master’s degree in a higher education, public administration or a related field and a minimum of three years of directly related professional experience;
•Ability to: communicate well in both verbal and written forms concerning academic, administrative, and technical subject matters; work independently, as well as collaboratively; and, work under pressure and to meet deadlines;
•General understanding of the organization and administration of both university academic affairs and student affairs functions;
•Competence in the use of word processing, Excel and Power Point software and ability to work with national and state-level education databases.
•References are required.
•Direct experience in higher education administration and/or research;
•General understanding of the legislative process;
•General understanding of the role of a higher education system board.
The anticipated hiring range is $40,000 to $50,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
