Duties:
This position installs and maintains the agency hardware and software on the local area network, provides security and backup for all OPI electronic systems and provides technical assistance to agency staff and K-12 school districts.

Work with other network analysts, system analysts, programmers, technicians, and top-level managers in the research, analysis, design, testing and evaluation of computer systems and technologies. Monitor computer and network performance and provide tuning and maintenance to ensure the most efficient and secure operation of agency systems. Knowledge of technology related security concepts and implementation. Knowledge and experience with application deployment, patch management, imaging, inventory and asset management, and incident management concepts and software. Test and evaluate hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems, and make purchasing recommendations affecting the configuration. Configure workstations, debug and resolve software and hardware conflicts and ensure proper operation of computers and applications. Train users in use of hardware, software and in-house applications. Work closely with and perform backup functions to Level 1 help desk staff.

Competencies:
? Advanced knowledge of computers, peripherals and network technology concepts. Skill in network and desktop administration. Specific applications include but are not limited to: Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft IIS, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office suite, ESET NOD32, Altiris CMS & SMS, Microsoft System Center suite, Backup Exec, VMWare, Microsoft SQL, and Microsoft Sharepoint.

? Verbal and written communication skills, including customer service skills, and strong independent judgment and problem solving techniques, planning and design; maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals. Ability to work with confidential information; interpreting policies and regulations.

Education/Experience:
The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are typically acquired through a Bachelors Degree in computer science or related field and two years of experience with designing, maintaining and administering local and wide area networks. Alternatively an Associate’s Degree in computer science or related field and three years of experience with designing, maintaining and administering local and wide area networks or a combination equivalent to a high school diploma and five years of experience with designing, maintaining and administering local and wide area networks. Knowledge of Windows Server and desktop platforms, MS SQL Server, MS Office suite, Storage Area Networks, Altiris, VMWare, Microsoft Sharepoint 2010, Microsoft IIS 7 and web server concepts, Microsoft Forefront, scripting and Backup Exec is preferred.
