Job Description: Configuration Manager

Description of Position

The Configuration Manager will lead the efforts to implement and manage software configuration management processes, environments and source control systems spanning multiple project teams and systems. This position will lead efforts to implement standardized tools and practices across the teams to more efficiently manage ongoing software deployments.

Responsibilities

The Configuration Manager will coordinate release activities with the Development, QA and Project Management teams to ensure successful roll out of releases for our clients.

The Configuration Manager will:
Further optimize and automate our deployment process to be highly scalable

Address incidents associated with configuration

Maintain currency and knowledge of new technologies being introduced and to ensure that system components are designed for testability.

Respond to all requests from team members in a timely professional manner.

Implement installations of our software for clients

Develop scripts and code

Communicate with internal users the status of release

Manage the setup/configuration of the various environments used for development, testing, and staging

Maintain an accurate and timely configuration management database (CMDB)

Execute deployment activities, such as communication planning, learning delivery and developing deployment documentation

Confer with systems analysts, engineers, programmers and others to design system and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces.

Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints

Supervise the work of programmers, technologists and technicians and other engineering and scientific personnel.

Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met.

Obtain and evaluate information on factors such as reporting formats required, costs, and security needs to determine hardware configuration.

Design, develop and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.

Required Skills and Education

Minimum of 3+ years relevant experience in the software industry field including prior hands-on systems configuration management and development experience

Demonstrated experience in scripting, software developing and system configuration

Familiarity with entire software development life cycle

Understanding of multi-tier web application architecture and deployment

Understanding of existing software deployment best practices and methodologies to be leveraged in the design, implementation of more automated deployment processes

Experience coordinating with internal and client resources Experience with Oracle SOA Suite

Desirable Skills

Detailed and effective written communication skills for documenting systems configuration

Highly organized, detail oriented, extremely responsive and able to prioritize a large number of tasks
