About The Port Authority

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state public agency operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the New York / New Jersey region including The Port Authority Trans Hudson Corporation (PATH), the primary transit link between Manhattan and New Jersey communities and suburban commuter railroads.



Reporting to the Engineer of Construction, the Staff Services Engineer, sometimes referred to as the Assistant Resident Engineer, should be fully competent in all conventional aspects of the subject matter or functional area of assignments. This includes planning and conducting work-requiring judgment in independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation/modification of standard methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises and defines new solutions to problems encountered. Independently performs most assignments with instruction only regarding general expected results. Receives technical guidance for unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval of proposed project plans. Supervises assigned engineers, inspectors consultants and administrative staff on a project basis. Will act as a Lead Engineer Architect (LEA) on numerous Stage IV assignments.



Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

-Must possess a Bachelors Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
-Six (6) or more years functioning as Engineer on building, port terminal, roadway type construction or related experience
-Applicants must meet all performance and attendance standards and have completed all probationary periods at time of appointment to position.
-Must have a valid drivers license.



Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

-Demonstrated experience managing a small staff
-Demonstrated knowledge of Construction Management Division (CMD) strategies, processes and procedures especially in building, port terminal and roadway type rehabilitation work along with experience in Capital and TAA type construction work.
-Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
-Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
-Demonstrated knowledge in monitoring actual budget expenditures and schedules against forecasts
-Possess a Professional Engineers license in New York and/or New Jersey
-Demonstrated knowledge in monitoring actual budget expenditures and schedules against forecasts
-Demonstrated knowledge of WINTRAK
-Proficient in the use of various computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
