Reports to: Production Manager

Position Summary:
Scott-Gross Company is seeking a Specialty Gas Laboratory Manager to manage, direct and execute numerous job tasks in a well maintained laboratory environment. The Laboratory manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, filling and analyzing medical gases and compressed specialty gases. A strong analytical background with gas chromatography experience is preferred along with a strong work ethic and a willingness to work independently as well as with others.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Calibrate Analytical Equipment
  • Manufacture and analyze specialty gases
  • Manage specialty gas inventory
  • Manage records (production records, certificates of analysis, etc.)
  • Maintain proper housekeeping of Laboratory and Lab Office
  • Ensures compliance with CGMP, HazMat, OSHA and other regulatory agencies
  • Ensures maintenance of all equipment and facility
  • Ensures all safety rules are strictly enforced and safety training is regularly scheduled, conducted and documented
  • Maintains inventory of cylinders for retest as well as to other vendors
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related technical field
  • Background in Chemistry or Engineering preferred
  • Experience with Laboratory Equipment (Gas Chromatography, Oxygen Analyzer, Gravimetric Scale, etc. ) preferred
  • Familiarity with Specialty Regulators and Equipment preferred
  • 2 + years of relevant welding supply and gas industry experience required

Necessary Skills:
  • Proven ability to work effectively under deadlines with little supervision and to complete a high volume of paperwork accurately and on time
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry and/or analytical chemistry
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Knowledge of inventory management
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Effective verbal communication and rapport building skills
  • Goal oriented and self-motivated
  • Ability to work independently and with other employees in manufacturing, analytical, and managerial operations
  • Must be able to perform algebraic calculations
  • Must be able to analyze complex information
  • Able to lift 50-75 pounds frequently
  • Able to maneuver 100+ pound cylinders (rolling, using a cart, etc.)
