The management engineer will provide expert analytical support to Primary Children's Medical Center (PCMC) with regard to productivity, throughput, and process reliability. The successful candidate will join a team of data analysts and project support consultants under the guidance of the Manager of Improvement Advisors in the Department of Systems Improvement. The management engineer will execute assigned analytical tasks and lead and/or support process improvement projects. Within the department, the management engineer will serve as the expert on operations research concepts and productivity issues.

This position is full-time Monday-Friday and benefits elligible.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Provides expert analytical support to hospital leaders and department leaders on issues of labor productivity, process throughput, capacity utilization and resource scheduling

Applies mathematical models to solve complex operational problems

Uses benchmarking databases and other tools to compare PCMC to similar institutions with regard to outcomes, productivity, and work processes

Provides appropriate and effective process improvement advice and facilitation services to project teams and other internal customers

Provides expert consultation and support to team members with regard to concepts and tool of industrial engineering and operations research

As needed, writes and edits detailed project plans, including clear problem definitions, time frames, and resource requirements

Performs all necessary actions to advance assigned projects, including writing, research, and communication functions

Communicates with key stakeholders regarding projects, appropriately using meetings, telephone calls, e-mail messages, formal progress reports, and presentations to teams and committees

Maintains working knowledge of process improvement theory and techniques, project management theory and techniques, industrial engineering techniques, and relevant developments in healthcare

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Health Systems Management, Management Engineering or related field

Proficiency using Microsoft Excel to analyze data

Working knowledge of industrial engineering/operations research concepts and techniques

Excellent organizational skills including the ability to prioritize tasks

Excellent interpersonal relations skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience applying industrial engineering/operations research concepts to workplace issues

Experience with workload analysis, productivity improvement, and the creation of staffing plans.

Working knowledge of managerial accounting concepts

Training in one or more specific model for process improvement (PDSA, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)

Experience creating flow charts

Experience working in a health care environment

Experience using Microsoft Access or Standard Query Language to analyze data

Experience querying data from Intermountain Information Systems
