Under general direction, the advanced level IT Support Specialist has broad decision making authority and independence, and serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex issues. This classification requires thorough knowledge of computer diagnostic and repair techniques, and network administration tools in order to provide overall support of new and existing IT systems to administration, faculty, staff, students, and computer labs.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serves as consultant and advises users on IT related matters.
2.Provides training and technical assistance to administration, faculty, staff, students, and computer labs.
3.Researches parts, equipment, and current technical trends.
4.Conducts complex troubleshooting of IT environments including OS, networks, applications and hardware.
5.Installs and configures IT hardware, software, and peripheral components.
6.Loads and verifies correct operation of software and OS packages.
7.Designs new installation of equipment.
8.Provides work direction to student employees.
9.Performs other duties as assigned.
Applications are invited for the position of IT Support Generalist on the Chillicothe Campus of Ohio University. This person’s responsibilities will include: Serving as a institutional resource for consulting and advising users on IT related matters; Providing training and technical assistance to administration, faculty, staff and students; Assisting with installation, support and maintenance of campus computers, classrooms, labs, common computer areas, and lecture casting classrooms; Researching and recommending the purchasing of software and hardware; Designing, testing and implementing new computer and software configurations for administrative and instructional areas in both the Windows and Macintosh OS; Maintaining and updating information kiosks across the campus; Maintaining and updating web sites for the campus; Functioning as one of the primary contacts for faculty, staff, students and the community using campus facilities; Maintaining currency in technical trends;. Other duties may include: Supervising student workers; Assisting with the campus computer help line; Responding, documenting and resolving service calls involving hardware, software, networking and training issues. Performing needs assessment for IT equipment, hardware, & software; submitting purchase recommendations to IT Director, and creating purchase orders for approved equipment.
•Completion of undergraduate core program in computer/technical related field to include instruction in computer software, hardware, and operating systems. 18 months training or 18 months experience in computer software, hardware, and operating systems. 12 months training or 12 months experience in computer diagnostic and repair techniques. 9 months training or 9 months experience in network and telephone wiring techniques. 6 months training or 6 months experience in training and development techniques.

•Good customer service skills are required.
•Experience with distance learning and computer imaging/cloning, and supervisory experience is preferred.
