General Description:
Under direct supervision, performs tasks involved in the preparation and distribution of medications checked by a licensed Pharmacist.

Essential Function/Duties:

Subsequent to verified order entry by a Doctor of Pharmacy, places properly packaged medication in labeled containers to be verified by a Doctor of Pharmacy. Transports completed medication order to designated pick-up site as needed. Refills patient medication cassettes. Participates in restocking of automated dispensing machines subject to verification by D.Ph and files reports as needed. Prepares IV admixtures and documents work. Delivers IV fluids to patient care areas and retrieves unused/unneeded IV fluids for return to pharmacy unit. Handles and prepares admixtures containing cytotoxic drugs while adhering to cytotoxic handling guidelines. Fills request for floor stock medications and documents completion of order. Assists with keeping log of medications and supplies that need to be reordered. Participates in debit/credit routines for pharmacy charges to help ensure the patient receives a timely and accurate bill. Assists in receiving, checking in and shelving of medications when received from vendors. Assists in the stock replenishment of decentralized/satellite pharmacy units as requested. Rotates stock as needed to reduce outdating. Maintains IV room/preparation area stock of IV base fluids and additives. Rotates stock consistently so as to avoid outdating. Files patient specific physician orders. Prepares verification of use forms, drug supply and maintains PC-based inventory database for Controlled Dangerous Substances. Participates in daily physical count and reports unreconciled pharmacy stock discrepancies to the Pharmacy Supervisor or Director immediately. May assist with the training of less experienced staff. May participate in medical research programs. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: *Certification: Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or successful completion of the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy approved curriculum for preparation of chemotherapy/hazardous drugs. Note: May be underfilled as a Pharmacy Technician I that requires the following: Must pass the OU Medical Center Pharmacy Technician exam with a minimum score of 75%. Permit as a Pharmacy Technician by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy when eligible. (Refer to Department of Pharmacy Policy and Procedure Manual for process.) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of general science and math. Ability to perform basic math calculations. Must have good interpersonal skills for developing effective working relationships with staff and coworkers. Good computer skills. Ability to type 20-30 words per minute. Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation): Requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, lift/carry objects, push/pull equipment and climb stairs or ladders. Requires frequent bending, squatting, reaching above head and lifting from floor level as well as lifting above shoulders. Occasionally required to lift/carry up to 35 pounds and to push/pull up to 35 pounds. Frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals. Occasional exposure to communicable diseases. Requires performing repetitive task and motions for 4 hours per day. Requires good manual dexterity and visual acuity.
