Full Time Exempt Position.

Consistent with the Christian mission and Hope for Life Vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Aquatics Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of safe and high quality programs for members and guests which satisfy specific, identified needs.

Required Skills
This position requires an individual with knowledge, experience, and formal education in aquatics programming and pool operation and the skills necessary to develop and carry out a wide variety of aquatic programs, meeting the needs of people of all ages from babies through seniors. S/he must have a high level of organization to successfully manage various programs and the ability to build and manage a team of aquatics professionals. S/he must positively impact the quality of this service area with high standard, affordable programming conducted by properly guided and motivated staff. S/he must ensure that all programming meets YMCA of Middle TN Aquatic Standards and philosophy, incorporating a values component, all in a safe, supportive environment S/he should be organized, enthusiastic, and a self-starter, who has the ability to work with a diverse group of people - including members and participants of all ages, paid and volunteer staff, colleagues and community representatives - and can understand the needs of people from various backgrounds. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, required.

Education / Experience Required:
• Minimum 21 years of age; high school diploma or equivalent, 4-year college degree preferred

• Minimum 1600 hours lifeguarding experience and minimum four year’s experience in direct teaching of aquatic programs

• Experience with pool operations and testing pool chemicals; Pool Operator certification preferred

Certifications Required:
• Pre-hire: complete YMCA of Middle TN application for employment, new hire packet and Praesidium Child Abuse Detection / Prevention training

• Before first shift: successfully complete Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program and obtain / maintain Ellis & Associates lifeguard license, CEO part 1; BBP

• Within six months of hire: YMCA P.O.O.L. / CPO

• Within 12 months of hire: successfully complete Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program Instructor Training and obtain / maintain Ellis & Associates Instructor / Instructor Trainer license

• Ensure the safe delivery of aquatic and family services programs to members, participants and guests, making the YMCA a community leader in Aquatics and Family Services

• Develop and implement safe high quality programming, scheduling, purchasing of equipment, and promotion for facility and possible off-site aquatic programs and other programs

• Maintain clean and safe pool and family services environments; maintain program areas and equipment to meet all relevant standards

• Hire, train, supervise and evaluate a professional team of qualified aquatic and family services staff and volunteers; ensure lifeguard coverage; staff all programs appropriately to ensure coverage during all programs, activities, and open swimming times

• Maintain Ellis & Associates lifeguard license; comply with Ellis & Associates’ standards to maintain his/her license

• Ensure all aquatics and family services staff acquire and maintain necessary licenses / certifications; train all staff in emergency procedures and incident reporting

• Direct and coordinate all aquatic and family services programs, CPR/First-Aid/Lifeguard/AED licensing / certification programs

• Manage all necessary information and records for the development of programs, program participants and program evaluations

• Respond to member and participant concerns in a timely, professional manner

• Lifeguard and lead programs in support of staff when necessary; provide fun, supportive work environment with high staff morale and proper recognition

• Prepare budgets specifically related to assigned programs and assure adherence to final budget income generation and expense control

• Serve on and participate in appropriate Association Cabinets and Committees

• Serve as a leader in the Annual Giving Campaign and actively participate in AGC events
