The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System is seeking a highly skilled and experienced RN to serve as the Nurse Leader in the role of Associate Chief of Nursing Services for Geriatrics and Rehabilitative Care (GRC). This role will provide oversight to the Nursing Home Care Units or Community Living Centers (CLC), the CARES Unit (Adult Day Health), and other Geriatric/Rehabilitative Programs. The incumbent will be required to travel to all program site locations within the GRC service, with some programs located at other sites approximately 15 miles from the main West Los Angeles campus. This role is accountable to the Nurse Executive.

Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.
Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
Designated and/or Random Drug Testing may be required.
Background and/or Security Investigation required.
English Language Proficiency required.
We are looking for someone who:
1. Will be accountable for population of groups of integrated programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influences organizational mission and healthcare.
2. Provides leadership in improving patient care, maintaining standards of care, sustaining the highest quality and effectiveness of care in diverse or complex programs.
3. Develops staff for career progression.
4. Forecasts new knowledge needs for changing practice in environments/population groups and plans, implements, and evaluates strategies to meet those needs.
5. Utilizes principles of Performance Improvement in approaching group and problem solving.
6. Designs, modifies, and implements systems compatible with professional standards and with mission and goals of the organization to iprove the cost-effective use of resources.
7. Provides age-specific care for older adult (65 -74 years of age) and geriatric (over 75 years of age) patients/groups. Assesses age-specific care requirements and develops an appropriate plan of care.
8. Has knowledge of Long Term Care (LTC) mandates and MDS regulations.
9. Ability to interface with multiple VA departments and services.
10. Has knowledge in compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia .
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross for Healthcare Providers.
A Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) is preferred with 4 -5 years of successful clinical nursing practice or a Doctoral Degree with 3 - 4 years of succesful nursing practice, of which two years of applicable experience is related to the care of the geriatric and rehabilitative patient population preferred.
Must demonstrate knowledge of current concepts and principles of Continuous Readiness, Performance Improvement, including PDSA model; external review standards (The Joint Commission [JC], Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities [CARF], and National Committee on Quality Assurance [NCQA]) as appropriate.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with multiple service lines and disciplines.
Proven ability to facilitate group problem solving, along with previous experience leading and/or facilitating performance improvement projects, teams, and groups.
Excellent organizational, communication, writing, and time management skills.
Demonstrated ability in data tracking, management, analysis, and feedback of results.
Proven ability to utilize sound judgment in making performance management and continuous readiness decisions.
Demonstrates ability to accurately implement VA GLA policies, regulations, standards of care and standards of practice.
Ability to work variable and flexible tours to meet program demands.
Demonstrates self-motivation and ability to communicate orally and/or using the computer in all types of situations.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs or comparable word processing, spreadsheet, and graphic software and the ability to learn new programs specific to the VA.
Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board (NPSB) in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization Professional Development: performance, education/career development Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
