Assists in the development and production of marketing and training documents for a variety of volunteer programs. Utilizes volunteer management database to plan and coordinate a variety of service projects. Trains and supervises volunteers to ensure the successful and safe completion of service projects. Works independently under general supervision within established guidelines and procedures.
This is a full time temporary position lasting up to 9 months.
Assists staff in research, planning, and writing marketing and training documents for volunteer programs, such as manuals, brochures, flyers, and curriculum for the Park Ambassador Program. Works with both park and other department staff to implement the City's new, web-based volunteer management database for coordination of volunteers. (60%)
Trains and supervises volunteers on a variety of service projects throughout the parks. Projects may include planting, weeding, and mulching flower beds and tree wells, pruning shrubs and plants, picking up litter and disposing of debris. As well as general maintenance on buildings, furniture repairs and replacement, painting, carpentry repairs, moving furniture and setting up equipment for events throughout the parks. Identifies tools, materials, and equipment needed to safely complete tasks. (40%)

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Requires education and/or experience to attain the following:
Two years of experience in general administrative and clerical support, and graduation from high school or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Basic knowledge of general business office practices and procedures; proficiency in English grammar, punctuation and spelling; general customer service techniques; and standard office equipment and computer software programs.
Ability to operate a computer with demonstrated proficiency using database, word processing, and spreadsheet software applications at an appropriate level for efficient job performance; express ideas clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; demonstrate varied facility maintenance and cleaning tasks; train others in safely operating a wide variety of equipment and tools, utilizing related protective gear and safety equipment; identify and prioritize additional tasks; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; and perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Basic knowledge or experience in event planning, graphic design, and/or facility maintenance practices.
