Status: Temporary, non-exempt position through June 30, 2013
Salary: $3,245.00 to $5,193.00 per month
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, hours to be determined.

Under general supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for the development, administration and implementation of Environmental Health & Safety training programs for faculty, staff and students. The incumbent will also assist with planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining a safety compliance program; a program that is necessary to ensure a safe and healthy environment on campus; protect the university against losses; and ensure that university operations are in compliance with university policies and standards, California Occupational Safety & Health Act (Cal/OSHA) and other applicable environmental and health rules, regulations, and laws. The incumbent will help ensure that the campus departments responsible for fire and life safety compliance are current with all inspections and corrections. The incumbent will participate in maintaining and tracking compliance documents. Responsibilities also include liaison with local, state and federal regulatory personnel to assure compliance with current regulations, as well as assuring compliance with nationally recognized standards of best practices when necessary. The incumbent will provide management of hazardous materials (substances and wastes); ensure environmental compliance, promote industrial hygiene, occupational safety, and fire and life safety. The incumbent will perform other duties as assigned.
Applicants must possess the equivalent to a four-year college degree in a related field. Experience in an environmental health and safety compliance field is desired. Applicants must have excellent organizational and customer service skills. The ability to clearly and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, technical information to audiences with varying levels of knowledge and abilities is required, along with the ability to use a computer with Microsoft Office applications. Applicants must have the ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with a diverse university community.
Physical Requirements: Applicants must be able to lift, lower, push, and pull loads ranging in weight from 5-60 lbs.; must be able to carry loads ranging from 20-50 lbs. for distances up to 20 feet; must be capable of kneeling, reaching overhead, climbing stairs and ladders, walking, twisting, stooping, and bending; employee may spend 20-50% of day sitting, 20-50% of day standing, 20-50% of day walking.
