SUMMARY: The Linux Administrator will be responsible for supporting the day to day operations of AAMC’s IT systems and services, which includes the management for monitoring tools that gauge operating systems, network, Oracle databases, IP load balancing (BigIP), web application servers (Java WebSphere, PHP and Cold Fusion) and system performance. The Administrator works closely with other systems administrators and database administrators to maintain systems availability and to directly support application development and QA test teams.
Provides real-time responses and proactive support including operational functions such as System Administration, Client-facing Application Support, and Backup and Restore Administration
Monitors performance of key infrastructure components
Provides servers and operating systems installations, upgrades, and patching
Installs, configures, and maintains services such as Apache, Tomcat, and OS level services.
Monitors servers for stability and taking both proactive and reactive measures to correct and prevent issues.
Verifies technical accuracy and consistency of configuration changes made by other systems administration staff.
Documents and electronically stores daily task information, architecture, processes, and user instructions
Participates in planned maintenance windows; provides key verification assistance.
Reviews logs and develops and maintains automated log review methods; provides monitoring and recovery of scheduled developer jobs.
Bachelor’s degree or relevant substantive experience, plus a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant Linux systems administration, performance analysis, and experience with standard services such as Apache, Tomcat, Postfix, IMAPS, SSH are required.
Requires a basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, as well as experience building virtual Linux servers with VMware, as well the ability to generate and maintain technical documentation.
Ability to work 24X7 on-call support rotation and occasional off hour maintenance.
Excellent verbal communications skills are required.
RHCT/RHCE preferred, but not required.
Understanding of systems administration concepts such as DNS, NIS, SAMBA, NFS, Perl and shell scripting are a plus, along with experience developing/troubleshooting ColdFusion and/or Java applications are preferred.
