The Dow Chemical Company, located in Midland, MI, is seeking qualified,

This program is for already-successful students enrolled in participating LOCAL mid-Michigan colleges and universities who meet all of the listed co-op program requirements and can


succeed both in school and in a


work environment.

This position of a Student Security Officer within the Emergency Services & Security


department exists to provide security at the plant and process the flow of personnel and materials at the gate locations of the Midland area corporate, manufacturing and research locations.

Responsibilities include:
performing vehicle inspections

effective, professional, and helpful communication and conduct with employees, customers, suppliers, etc.

enforcement of security procedures

documentation for visitors and materials in and out of Dow facilities

special assignments

salting and shoveling the sidewalks during winter months


Candidates for this position must be majoring in Criminal Justice or Fire Science.

During vehicle inspections, the student must be able to climb in and out of vehicles, including semi trucks.

Depending on the shift that is available, there is the potential to work a shift

other than

a day shift.

The student will periodically need to operate a vehicle during assignments.

During winter months, salting and shoveling the sidewalks are also required.

Candidates must have good interpersonal skills.

Candidates must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and have the ability to change priorities as needed.

Teamwork and cooperation are essential, as well as taking independent initiative on things that need to be done.

Candidate must be knowledgeable with computers and Microsoft applications, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.



Must be enrolled at an accredited, LOCAL mid-Michigan college or university

(Delta, SVSU, Northwood, CMU, Davenport, MMCC-Harrison, or Ferris-Delta campus)

pursuing an undergraduate degree.

Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours in fall and winter terms



A minimum


term and cumulative


(on a 4.0 scale)

is required to enter

and continue working

in the Dow co-op program.

(Eligibility for continued employment is checked each term, and m

ost positions are seeking much higher than the minimum GPA.)

Must be able to work between 20 and 30 hours each week, and it may be a shift other than a day shift.

Must commit to the role for

at least

1 full year

(for example, before graduating with a Bachelor’s degree, transferring out of the area, or before beginning a required part of your program that would not enable you to continue working the stated hours each week -- i.e., the Academy if in the Criminal Justice program. Most positions seek students who will be available longer than 1 year.)

Must have reliable attendance and punctuality; therefore, dependable transportation, dedication and time management skills are required.

Must be registered/enrolled in their school's cooperative education program before their first day at Dow and comply with the school’s policies/requirements, in addition to Dow's, throughout their co-op employment.

Any current co-ops wishing to transfer into this role must have been in their current role

at least

one year, must have

at least

one full year left before graduating or transferring out of the area, and must have supervisor approval

before applying to this or any other Dow co-op job posting.

Job duties for the Local Student Program include necessary entry-level tasks; therefore, we are seeking candidates who generally have less than 3 years of professional work experience.
