SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking qualified individuals for one or more Environmental Specialist III position(s) who will work in Saratoga, Wyoming . The selected applicant(s) will report to the project lead at our office in Broomfield, Colorado. Survey experience in avian, raptor, mammal and/or plant surveys is desired. Use of temporary housing in Saratoga is an option. This position is full-time, hourly and may be temporary or regular. Hourly pay will be based upon individual experience and qualifications.
Conduct wildlife presence/absence surveys and/or habitat assessments
Record data in the field and prepare reports for natural resource studies
Take initiative, resolve problems, and create improved processes and procedures for natural resource studies
Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and scientific tools and equipment under arduous field conditions
Locate and use existing reports, scientific studies, data and other relevant documents for preparation of scientific background reviews
Work closely with SWCA managers, program directors, and project managers to promote SWCA's business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values
Implement and maintain safety and communication protocols for all project tasks
Assist project managers in data management, analysis and survey/resource report preparation
Oversee crews of biologists and environmental specialists in demanding field situations
Organize equipment and logistical arrangements for complex field studies
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in fish and wildlife science, biology, ecology or related field required
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in wildlife/environmental fieldwork required
Previous experience with wildlife surveys, particularly avifauna and/or mammals, in the Rocky Mountain/Wyoming Region is preferred
GPS experience preferred
Must be able to conduct fieldwork for long hours, in sometimes severe weather conditions, including walking at least 10-miles in rugged terrain, and be able to carry equipment and supplies weighing greater than 15 pounds
The successful candidate should have flexibility and willingness to learn company procedures, ability to try new, improved techniques, make independent decisions when appropriate to the situation and make adjustments as a member of a team in order to complete tasks in the most efficient and accurate manner
