Member Duties : This position is focused on the growth and extension of UGA’s service-learning at local schools in Athens, GA, focusing on gardening and nutrition. The VISTA will be matched with an off-campus non-profit working with the School Garden Program. The VISTA will collaborate with relevant stakeholders (UGA faculty, staff, and students, school teachers and staff, school administrators and social service organizations) to establish a sustainable School Garden Network in the local school district. The VISTA will strengthen existing garden/nutrition service-learning and volunteer efforts, enhance communication of best practices, and help recruit, train, track, and retain committed teachers and volunteers. Priority will be given to those who are recent graduates, have garden experience, have related academic background, and have previous volunteer experience with school children. Ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies, work independently, travel within Clarke Count is required.
