Apply technical expertise to the continued use and modernization of US Navy aircraft carrier nuclear propulsion plant fluid and mechanical systems. Engineering and project management principles are applied in evaluating plant locations for susceptibility to service related degradation, including the design and development of in-service inspection and repair strategies for fleet implementation. Interface with other engineering organizations will be required to support analysis, testing, and inspection development. Work in a team environment with multiple engineering disciplines across various agencies and companies providing technical support on systems and components integral to the safe and reliable operation of aircraft carriers.
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of experience in a related field; or
MS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Fundamental interest in structural mechanics.
- Experience with structural analyses methods.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.

The Bettis and KAPL Laboratories, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Niskayuna, New York, respectively, develop naval nuclear propulsion systems. The Laboratories train enlisted and officer propulsion plant operators at the Charleston, SC and West Milton, NY facilities and operate a one-of-a-kind reactor core examination facility in Idaho Falls, ID.
