Applies basic and some advanced technical skills and knowledge related to performing a range of activities from routine crating and packing to the preparation of non standard crates and boxes for shipment of non standard items.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
Performs tasks that are simple to moderately complex requiring some skill, experience and judgment to complete. Works under limited supervision and determines plans and actions from standard procedural alternatives.
Determines packing requirements from specifications, blueprints, oral instructions and the knowledge of items to be shipped and shipping conditions. Inspects items to determine size and shape of container, materials to be used, and types of supports and braces to be used.
Fabricates crates or boxes out of wood and other materials and packs such standard and non standard items such as jet engines, aircraft parts and other large or odd shaped products. May build special crating fixtures and braces for shipping unusual or large items when standard crates or boxes cannot be used.
Packages materials by blocking, tying down, padding, securing bracing or other means to avoid damage. Wraps and tightens metal bands around crate. Prepares materials such as parts, assemblies and tooling for special shipment. Weighs loaded crate.
Counts items to be packed to ensure compliance with shipping orders. Attaches identification labels or stencils containing such information as shipping destination, weight, and type of product contained on crate.
Moves container to shipping area loads crates or boxes onto the truck and complete appropriate documentation as required.
Ancillary Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications other than the primary assignment.
CRATER / PACKER
Formal Education, Training and Work Experience:
Experience may be substituted for the formal education and training requirements in this section at the discretion of management. High school diploma or G.E.D. and one (1) or more years of experience in crating and shipping small and large standards and irregularly shaped items. Must have experience is building standard and custom crates to technical specifications.

Level of Supervision Required:
Works with regular supervision. Follows standard written or oral instructions. May need additional assistance for more complex tasks.
Special Job Requirements, Licenses or Certifications:
• Must be able to read and write the English language and learn to interpret and comprehend company policies, procedures, safety instructions, work instructions, engineering specifications, Material Safety Data Sheets, and other like documents used in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
• Must be competent in the use of standard hand and power woodworking tools and banding equipment
• Safety training as required by OSHA.
While performing the duties of this job, the Stakeholder is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk and hear. The Stakeholder frequently is required to move from one place to another and reach with hands and arms. The Stakeholder must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Travel between facilities. Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. NRD only: Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
While performing the duties of this job, the Stakeholder is regularly exposed to vibration. The Stakeholder is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Work in stressful situations and handle multiple priorities. Demonstrate interpersonal, organizational and communication skills to interact effectively with other people both inside and outside the company.
