Billing & Eligibility Clerk II

We are currently recruiting for a Membership & Billing Clerk with group employee benefits administration experience to join our downtown San Francisco office. You will handle eligibility maintenance and reports and provide eligibility customer service for assigned accounts.

Detailed Job Duties:
1. Prepares weekly batches of contribution reports received and reviews and corrects discrepancies.

2. Keys and balances employer contribution report data.

3. Reviews eligibility reports for accuracy.

4. Updates monthly changes for Plan participants related to benefits and enrollment information.

5. Researches and handles plan rules and benefit questions.

6. Contacts providers for eligibility verifications as necessary.

7. Serves as primary customer service contact in the department for assigned account(s) and back-up to non-assigned accounts.

8. Performs COBRA related duties, including generating initial COBRA notices and correspondence, and posting and tracking payments.

9. Distributes and updates enrollment cards.

10. Assists and helps organize health plan open enrollments.

11. Handles multiple rate accounts.

12. Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
1. One year of billing and eligibility experience in a related business (i.e. TPA, insurance company, union office, etc.)
2. High school diploma or equivalent knowledge, skills and ability.
3. Ability to type a minimum of 45 WPM.
4. Ability to use a 10-key calculator by touch.
5. Intermediate level skills in Word and Excel.
6. Skills to perform basic math functions.
7. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to interact effectively with others.
8. Knowledge of medical and/or dental terminology is preferred.
9. Ability to meet production and quality standards.
10. Must be able to lift heavy 25lb. boxes or print-outs.

Job Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. At least one year of banking, health insurance, medical office or related experience. Ability to type minimum of 45 wpm and use a 10-key calculator by touch. Ability to perform basic math functions. Good attention to detail. Ability to interact effectively with others. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Must also be able to lift heavy (25lb) boxes and printouts. Previous work experience in a health claims office and knowledge of medical and dental claims and pension plan administration is preferred. Bilingual is preferred but not required.
This is an hourly position with a 35 hour work week under union contact.
