Under general supervision, provides histology services for Alaska Native Medical Center
(ANMC). Prepares tissue samples for physician analysis.
Performs patient specimen preparation. Ensures sample suitability. Accepts
and processes samples for on-site testing or to contracted reference laboratories. Evaluates, judges and interprets
test results. Identifies and resolves inconsistencies in patient results. Maintains laboratory equipment and
instruments. Ensures quality control and functionality of instruments.
Provides customer service for questions directed to laboratory. Answers questions from patient providers regarding
test processes, patient results, or sample collection techniques. Trains new employees and laboratory students.
Participates in continuing education programs.
Monitors, maintains, orders and stocks laboratory equipment and supplies.
Participates in quality control initiatives. Prepares lab for inspection from regulatory institutions.
Knowledge of clinical processes and medical terminology.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, hospital and regulatory committee rules and regulations.
Knowledge of privacy laws and regulations.
Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices.
Skill in operating laboratory equipment.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
An Associate''s degree in clinical pathology AND one (1) year of clinical
laboratory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have American Society of
Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification or equivalent.
This position requires the ability to
sit for long periods of time. May occasionally be exposed to hazardous working environment with hazardous
chemicals and infectious disease. ANMC is not a latex free environment. Therefore, some latex exposure can be
