The Programmer Analyst I will provide bioinformatic computing support to the center's users in research projects using gene expression array and next-gen sequencing data. Responsibilities: preprocessing (retrieval of raw data, data quality control, sequence alignments, normalization of expression signals, etc); statistical analysis and interpretation of data using the center's existing analysis pipelines (differential gene expression analysis, transcriptome studies, genetic association/variation, epigenetic studies); preparing analysis reports; maintaining processed data and results for future research queries; testing and/or developing new analysis pipelines.

A. Coordinate and perform data management tasks: arrange and monitor the acquisition and distribution of data sets from variety of sources, query data sets from large databases.
B. Perform quality control analyses of data.
C. Manipulate and transform data sets into formats required for downstream analysis.
D. Perform transcriptome related analyses (transcriptome annotation, alternative splicing, allellic expression, splice junctions).
E. Analyze gene expression data: differential gene expression, gene enrichment, gene ontology, pathway and network analysis.
F. Assist users in verifying the accuracy and appropriateness of statistical applications, consider alternative analyses and apply cross-validation techniques.
G. Assist senior statisticians in developing novel analytical methods/techniques.
H. Prepare materials (tables, figures, analytic summary, interpretations) for research reports, presentations and manuscripts.
Job Qualifications MS degree in Statistics/Biostatistics or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of basic statistical methods, including descriptive analyses, PCA, t-tests, non-parametric tests, ANOVA, linear/logistic regression, and maximum likelihood methods.
Ability to analyze and criticize statistical methods in use as well as to write clear, concise and accurate reports of finding.
Data management skills: queries of SQL databases, scripting with bash/awk/perl/python to pre-process data sets.
Experience with sequence analysis, genetic linkage analyses, familiarity with genetic applications, microarray data applications and analysis.
Experience with Linux/Unix programming environment.
One year experience in working with a major programming language (C++, Java).
Significant experience in working with statistical software.
Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
Ability to read and understand research papers on neurobehavioral issues and statistical methodology.
