Under limited supervision, this position performs and interprets work in the Virology and Rabies Laboratory.
1. Performs and interprets the results of complex and routine viral isolation procedures. Inoculates specimens into proper host systems. Observes host systems for effects of viral growth. Identifies isolates using fluorescent antibody techniques.
2. Performs and interprets the fluorescent test, confirmation and monoclonal antibody procedures for rabies.
3. Performs and interprets varied and complex serological tests including EIA and IFA.
4. Maintains proper quality control programs and appropriate workload for the section.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in medical technology; or a bachelor's degree in biology or biological sciences with academic credits in microbiology; or an associate's degree in medical laboratory.
A bachelor's degree in microbiology; or a bachelor's degree in medical technology with prior professional experience working in a medical microbiology laboratory; or an associate's degree in medical laboratory technology with prior professional experience working in a medical microbiology laboratory.
