Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a graduate major concentration in political science or a related field (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline).

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in political science from an accredited institution with academic and experiential teaching strengths especially in leading learning communities with social science themes and field applications of the discipline through service learning. Preferred applicants will also have 18 graduate hours in economics in order to be credentialed in both political science and economics.

Responsibilities/Duties

Teaching the American Federal Government and other political science courses including International Relations.

Developing and distributing to students a course syllabus for each class taught based upon the official course outline for the course.

Teaching each course assigned in accordance with the College approved course description and course outlines.

Presenting course content to students and guides student discussion and course work-study.

Directing and assisting students in laboratory, studio, field, clinic, or other experimental learning activities appropriate to the course, discipline and field.

Preparing substitution assignments and providing substitute instruction for faculty colleagues during occasional absences, as required and as assigned, and not inconsistent with concurrent duties.

Establishing, posting, and maintaining approved office hours for professional activities and duties, which include student conferences.

Maintaining required records and reports.

Serving on committees and task forces.

Attending scheduled and called faculty meetings and College convocation and participating in commencement and program graduation ceremonies.

Participating in the development and improvement of curricula and courses, and in the development and improvement of instructional methods, materials, and resources.

Evaluating and selecting textbooks and other instructional materials for the assigned courses.

Developing and providing to students guidelines for student attendance and absence in the courses assigned.

Developing and providing to students guidelines for the determination of grades consistent with the College's grading standards in the courses assigned.

Referring students with special needs to appropriate College resources.

Assisting in the development and implementation of the College's instructional and institutional goals.

Maintaining an active interest and knowledge of current practices that affect the discipline and field of study.

Upholding the ethical standards and principals particular to the specific professional responsibility, and contributing toward advancement of the College.

Participating in other College related programs, activities, and community services, and in accordance with the individual's interest and abilities.

Performing related duties as required.
