La Crosse County Clerk of Courts Department seeks person with office experience to provide general clerical functions in the Clerk of Courts Office in the Consolidated Court System. Requires a bility to type 40 words per minute net and input data accurately at 100 keystrokes per minute (finalists will be tested).
Hours of Work: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. This is a total of 37.5 hours per week, which is full time.

Essential Job Functions:

Performs a variety of general clerical functions, including typing, word processing, filing, answering phone, photocopying, taking messages, courteously handling inquiries from the public, attorneys and other agencies and referring to appropriate personnel. Accurately inputs/accesses/retrieves information on a computerized system. Handles incoming and outgoing correspondence. Conducts record searches for information, as requested. Keeps confidentiality of work-related matters. F ollows instructions from office personnel and works cooperatively and courteously with other office personnel in completing all duties of the Office of the Clerk of Courts. Prepares documents for scanning by removing staples, assembling pages; then scans documents and destroys them.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - BONDS AND FEES
Receipts bonds and fees, fines and forfeitures and runs end-of-month tapes. Dockets information on computerized system which involves recording all legal documents and court minutes. Assists Account clerk, balances daily receipts, writes checks. Waits on counter handling inquires from the public in a courteous fashion. Checks monthly payments regarding fines.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - JURY SUMMONS
Summons jurors through written communication, retrieves related messages from special answering system, prepares questionnaires and juror lists, assists court during jury selection process. Waits on counter handling inquires from public in courteous fashion.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - COUNTER WORK/ASSISTING JUDICIAL ASSISTANTS
Waits on counter handling inquiries from public in courteous fashion. Assists Judicial Assistants by pulling files, preparing minute sheets and other duties for approximately two hours per day. Photocopies criminal/traffic files when requested by Public Defender to review for appeals. Prepares files to be sent to Public Defender and/or Court of Appeals, mails records to Court of Appeals in Criminal, Traffic, and Small Claims. Handles Small Claims garnishments. Receives payments and fees and balances cash drawer. Enters payments and related information in the CCAP court system database.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - COUNTER WORK
Waits extensively on counter handling inquires from public in courteous fashion. Checks monthly payments regarding fines. Processes paperwork to suspend licenses and issues warrants as necessary.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - CRIMINAL COURT
Dockets information on computerized system which involves recording all legal documents and court minutes.
Training, Experience and Other Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED, with training in business courses such as typing, bookkeeping and office practices.
- Preference for advanced training and/or Associate Degree in clerical, legal secretary or computer functions.
- Minimum of one year of general office experience.
- Preference for individuals with experience as legal secretary.
- May consider other relevant combination of training and experience.
- Specific experience required relating to the job which is vacant, i.e., record keeping job requires previous experience in that area.
- Must be bondable for positions requiring handling of money.
