The USFSM College of Education (COE) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of elementary education. As part of a research university system, we are seeking a dynamic educator to join a unique faculty that shares many common goals: reflective practices, integrating the arts into course work, and collaborative teaching and research. Using a constructivist perspective, we believe the importance that each student who graduates has the understanding that they are: responsible to be lifelong learners; become leaders in the field; help to inspire both other educators and the students they encounter; and most importantly help to transform education. We seek an innovative and collaborative candidate with an earned doctorate in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, or related fields with a research focus related to Elementary Education. Responsibilities include clinical supervision, coaching and mentoring pre-service students, teaching, research and service. Service is a significant component of the position. Applicants must have K-6 and university-level teaching experiences. A potential for establishing a scholarly record is required. Proficiency in teaching ESOL courses and a strong background in technology are assets.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):
  • Earned doctorate in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, or related fields with a research focus related to Elementary Education from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience at the K-6 level
  • Experience with supervision and mentoring/coaching of pre/in-service teachers
  • Evidence of or potential for establishing a scholarly record
  • Experience teaching at the college level
  • Advanced skills in technology
  • Commitment to support the arts-integration identity of the college
Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience):
  • Experience in supervision of pre-service teachers during clinical experiences
  • Demonstration of leadership skills and abilities
  • Experience teaching math or science methods courses
  • Proficiency in embedding ESOL standards in courses
  • 4 or more years of teaching experience at the K-6 level
  • Strong familiarity with Common Core State Standards
  • Experience and/or expertise in arts-integrated teaching
  • Experience with instructing students in distance learning, virtual environments, and in online teaching and learning
  • Experience with performance assessment
  • Experience in partnerships with community agencies and schools
  • Commitment to diversity, social justice, innovation, and collaboration in working with schools and university colleagues
