Building on prior operations and/or supervisory experience, develops industry-specific knowledge and experience required for promotion to a management roles. Rotates through various departments observing, learning and performing responsibilities in order to acquire industry knowledge, functional processes and practices as well as sales techniques.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives training and performs progressively responsible duties in all operational areas such as: yard operations, production, dispatch/scheduling/delivery, inside and outside sales, safety, finance and human resources.
Sets individual performance goals and monitors own progress with assigned management and trainers.
In conjunction with location and regional management, develops operating budgets and capital expenditure recommendations in order to meet operational and financial goals.
Participates as part of the Schedule Review Team.
May supervise assigned employees under the direction of management and perform duties such as: staff selection and training; planning, assigning and directing work; conducting performance reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices and ensures that employees observe all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injuries or damage. May be directed to conduct periodic safety meetings and solicits recommended changes to improve safety procedures.
Other duties may be assigned.
Strong customer service skills both face-to-face and telephone
Previous supervisory experience helpful
Good mathematical aptitude
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Solid interpersonal skills, including tact and influencing, with internal and external contacts
Good computer aptitude, particularly with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ERP applications
Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years related industry operations, or supervisory experience; or equivalent education and experience.
