Under the direction of the EOP Coordinator, duties include: providing one-on-one and small group academic coaching services to EOP students seeking help with coursework, study skills, time management, or other academic skills; maintaining records of academic progress and support provided; outreach to EOP students who may benefit from our services. Ability to assess and appropriately address academic needs of college students at a wide range of ability and skill levels required. Daytime hours only.

The philosophy of the “coaching” approach to academic support is based on the understanding that teaching faculty provide the classroom instruction, materials, and structured experiences necessary for the mastery of skills and content for their courses. The job of the Academic Coach is not to repeat these instructional activities or “re-teach” content, but to coach the student in the actions (reading, writing, practicing, organizing tasks, communicating, “studying”, etc.) and skills (time management, note taking, test taking, active reading, collaboration, etc.) needed in order to fully benefit from the instruction being provided. The explicit goal is to empower the student to become increasingly independent in mastering learning outcomes being taught and assessed by instructional faculty.

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Professional experience in teaching or providing academic services in the higher ed setting.

Additional Information:
Applicants must provide a resume and cover letter. The cover letter must include paragraphs 1) describing previous experience in teaching or providing academic support to students in higher education, and 2) relating how the applicant would apply this previous experience in higher education to the “coaching” philosophy in the job description above.

Address online cover letter and resume to Grace Loomis, Director of Human Resources.
