POSITION DESCRIPTION :
1. JOB PURPOSE
Under limited supervision or management, responsible for University locking systems involving performing locksmith related duties to include ordering doors, hardware, installation of doors and hardware, recordkeeping and maintenance of the same. Assist in supervisor duties as needed. Works 40 hours per week. Subject to overtime on a callback or scheduled basis.
2. JOB FUNCTIONS
a) Design and implement locking systems for new and existing buildings.
b) Write specs for replacement doors and door hardware.
c) Perform maintenance in specialty field of door hardware and multi-level master keyed security system.
d) Coordinate with electrical shop in installation of electronic door hardware.
e) Order and install doors and hardware in routine maintenance situations.
f) Review blueprints and hardware schedules on new construction.
g) Maintain files on the master key system including keeping inventory on key blanks, lock cores
and repair parts for locks and door hardware.
h) Operate saws, drills, lock mortise machines, hinge butt router, cylindrical boring jigs and related
i) Receive and transport material to and from job sites.
j) Operate various types of key duplication machines, lathe, end mill and drill press, cutting
keys and changing locks.
k) Repair locks and work mechanisms on office furniture. E/80%
a) Maintain a clean and safe workplace and a safety critical attitude such that there is
no threat to the safety or health of the employee or others.
b) Maintain working knowledge of handicap and barrier-free egress, entrances and
install related hardware.
c) Adhere to all ADA and OSHA safety mandates and check existing entrance and exit
doors upon request for compliance with ADA and barrier-free codes.
d) Maintain working knowledge of fire exit requirements and acceptable hardware
and compliance with all applicable OSHA safety mandates. E/15%
a) Operate service vehicles up to 24,000 lbs.
b) Assume duties of locksmith shop supervisor as needed.
c) Subject to overtime on a callback or scheduled basis. E/5%
A high school diploma and trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
A valid driver's license.
PREFERRED IN ADDITION TO THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
6 years of experience in the locksmith trade with 2 of these years in higher education or similar work environment.
PAY & WORK SCHEDULE :
Standard Hrs: 40; Band: 04 ($ 25,627.00 - $ 47,413.00)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :
Firm working knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures and ability to use in varied situations.
