Old Dominion University (ODU), a dynamic, urban public research institution, seeks an innovative and enterprising leader as Dean of the College of Business and Public Administration (CBPA). This is an exceptional opportunity to join a strong senior leadership team in advancing a rising comprehensive institution committed to preparing students for productive professional lives and engaged citizenry and to contributing to the economic and civic development of a thriving, coastal metropolitan region.

Old Dominion University enriches the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world through rigorous academic programs and active civic engagement. Located in the city of Norfolk, in the heart of metropolitan Hampton Roads, the University enjoys the advantages of its positioning amidst a major international maritime and commerce center: it is the third largest commercial port in the US and a primary hub for ship building. The University has a long history of close interaction with regional business, government, military, and maritime industries that results in more than $1 billion in annual impact to the local economy, making the University the largest generator of new jobs in the area.

One of six colleges in the University, the College of Business and Public Administration prepares students for successful careers by promoting ethical leadership in an increasingly complex, global society. Both business and public administration are housed in the College, a unique organization that encourages cross-disciplinary work. CBPA enrolls 3,582 students within a broad range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs that blend theory and practice with internship, research, and service learning opportunities. The College has 93 full-time and over 40 part-time faculty. All its business programs are accredited by AACSB and the master's in public administration is accredited by NASPAA. The College and University have momentum from successes: developing cross-disciplinary and school academic programs, broadening partnerships with the community, and increasing research productivity. CBPA in particular has a recognized and highly committed faculty dedicated to the College's multiple missions.

ODU seeks a strategic and entrepreneurial leader who will build upon a firm academic foundation and drive the creation and implementation of an ambitious vision for the future. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean will oversee all academic programs and services of CBPA. The Dean will also be an advocate for the College and will be a visible face and force beyond the boundaries of the College and University. S/he will have outstanding interpersonal, listening, communication, and negotiation skills and foster a diverse and inclusive environment. S/he will have the academic credentials to be hired at the rank of tenured Professor in a department in the College, administrative experience at the level of academic chair or equivalent, and demonstrated leadership and fundraising potential. S/he will also have a proven ability to interact effectively with campus administration, the business community, students, and alumni. Prudent management of resources and the fostering of advanced educational technologies are other key responsibilities of the Dean.

Review of nominations and applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. All inquiries, nominations/referrals, and applications (including resumes and letters of interest responding to the position challenges and objectives outlined above) may be submitted via the contact link below.
