Garmin's Aviation Design Engineering team is seeking Senior Design Engineers to participate in the product hardware development process with focus on designing and developing electronic circuits, equipment, systems and products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Design, debug, and test digital, analog, Radio Frequency (RF), and/or Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC)

Prepare or direct preparation of product layouts, detailed drawings and schematics

Direct and coordinate manufacture of prototypes

Plan and develop experimental test programs to verify compliance to all applicable regulations and quality guidelines

Analyze test data and reports to determine if the proposed design meets functional and performance specifications

Coordinate with other functional teams during the life cycle of the product and be responsible for and require design modifications

Evaluate engineering test results for possible application to developments of other systems

Use of software tools and test equipment to formulate and test electronic designs

Support production facilities in the manufacture of products

Interface with the Test Engineers and factory personnel on the testing and production of the products

Perform cost/performance tradeoff analysis of different circuit options

Investigate the usage of the latest components and technologies

Complete documentation of the design in the required formats

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from a four-year college or university or above equivalent education or experience

Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)

10+ years related experience as a Design Engineer performing duties similar to the essential functions of this Job Description

Good knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes and documentation

Broad technical knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Electrical Engineering (e.g., analog, digital, RF, and/or DSP)

Detailed knowledge and experience with test equipment and software tools for electronics design, testing and documentation

Strong verbal and written communications skills

Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience. This does not mean you need to possess all of the following the skills. The more skills you possess will increase your potential value to Garmin.

Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5 as a general rule)

Experience and/or knowledge of RTCA DO160 and DO254

Knowledge and/or training with writing and reviewing software based on DO-178 design assurance requirements

Knowledge and/or training with avionics safety analysis

Aviation related experience
