STATE BRIDGE ENGINEER
(Assistant State Engineer)
Work Location: 205 S. 17th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ
Job Description: Evaluates Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC), new technologies, tools and procedures to monitor, and continuously improve delivery for preservation, modernization, and expansion projects. Fosters an environment of innovation and continuous improvement with state-of-the trade technologies and efficiency. Leads, directs, instructs and coaches subordinate managers and staff to implement administrative directives, policies and procedures developed to meet project schedules and budgets. Executes agreements, policies, technical manuals and procedures on structure issues for ADOT. Establish, approve or implement standards, policies, procedures, or administrative directives from State Engineer's Office or through Development Group Leader interaction. Review and approve reports, documents, guidelines, and standards, prepared by subordinate managers, supervisors and consultant industry professionals. Develop and monitor Group budget expenditures and plan for future needs to assure funds are appropriately allocated and within budget. Meet with representatives of FHWA, AASHTO, NCHRP, Group Leaders, Consultants, contractors, other government and private sector executives, news media and the public to discuss, inform and resolve structure related issues.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
*Federal and State statues and agency standards, policies and procedures to provide consistency, quality and sound legal basis for desired results.
*Civil engineering principles and skill in application for analysis of structures (bridges, walls, and other structures) to establish sound policies and guidelines to make decisions on structure issues for new construction, rehabilitation and repair of the existing inventory.
*Motivation and leadership to continually improve methods, means, technology to surpass agency objectives for new and existing infrastructure.
*Communication and interpersonal skills to clearly and concisely relay ideas, goals and methods, to articulate problems and solutions, and to meet scope, schedule, and budgets.
*Requirement: Registration as a Professional Engineer in Civil or Structural Engineering or a closely related field in the State of Arizona, or proof of eligibility for reciprocity in the State of Arizona.
Ideal Candidate: Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. 5-10 years' experience in bridge engineering with supervisory experience.
Note: This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License. Candidates for this position must complete and sign the Driver Form on page 6 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR). The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.12 (H) and (I).
