Boise State University invites interested applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies, to become a part of our team to continue our quest toward becoming a Metropolitan Research University of Distinction.

You will have the opportunity to:
  • Develop a curriculum for the study of jazz
  • Direct the Jazz Ensemble
  • Teach Jazz Improvisation
  • Teach Jazz Techniques for Music Education Majors
  • Direct the annual Gene Harris Jazz Festival
  • Possibly teach applied lessons on your primary instrument
  • Develop relationships with state and regional music educators
  • Participate in Music Department governance activities and perform other duties as assigned by the Chair

Minimum Qualifications
  • a doctorate in music
  • jazz pedagogical skills as demonstrated in effective ensemble rehearsal and the teaching of improvisation
  • successful teaching experience at the university and/or public school levels

Preferred Qualifications
  • experience with collaborative projects
  • interpersonal skills which will facilitate effective outreach
  • jazz performance artistry which demonstrates a high level of musicianship
  • capable leadership and organizational skills germane to the further development of jazz studies offerings
