Warm, welcoming, 600-member Conservative congregation, located on Chicago’s North Shore, seeks full time Director of Education for 150-student (K 12) supplementary Religious School. As a Framework for Excellence School, our school has been recognized among the top religious schools in the country. We are seeking candidates who possess a strong Jewish identity, excellent communication skills and supervisory experience; someone who will be integral in the life of the Congregation.

An important objective for the Director of Education is to develop a program that meets the needs of young families and encourages them to enroll in the school.

Opportunity for ordained Conservative rabbi with concentration in Jewish education to also perform pastoral and rabbinic duties at additional compensation.


Curriculum and Program Development:
We are excited about the opportunity to innovate by incorporating current best practices and approaches into our curriculum, and to make Jewish learning exciting and engaging.

Candidates should have a demonstrated record of innovation, responsiveness, excellent interpersonal skills, and proven leadership abilities.

The Director of Education is responsible for:
• Developing and supporting the Hebrew School curriculum from Kindergarten through Hebrew High School, in both Jewish studies and Hebrew.

• Establishing educational goals and integrating curriculum and lesson materials across subject matters and academic years.

• Integrating technology into teaching and learning

• Directing a family education program.

• Developing holiday celebrations.

Faculty Supervision:
The Director of Education is responsible for:
• Faculty and staff recruitment and hiring, supervision and evaluation

• Observation and evaluation of classroom activities

• Providing faculty development and support

Administration of the School:
Director of Education is responsible for all aspects of school administration, including:

• Developing and adhering to the school budget.

• Enrollment in and marketing of the school.

• Selecting learning materials and supplies.

• Developing and maintaining the school calendar.

• Maintaining student records.

Communication and Relationship-Building:
In order to advance the school and foster productive working relationships, the Director of Education is also expected to:

• Build and maintain personal relationships with students and their families.

• Expand connections and relationships with the Congregation as a whole.

• Lead outreach efforts to increase enrollment.

• Work with the School Board, the Rabbi and other synagogue professional staff, the Synagogue Board of Directors, lay leadership, and parents.

• Participate in appropriate Jewish education associations.
