The Kansas City Plant is a U. S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration facility managed and operated by Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T). Performs multiple functions to ensure information systems infrastructure is available, reliable, secure and stable either individually or under the guidance of experienced personnel. Support is generally for small to medium scale systems of the business. Is expected to:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluate, select, install and maintain operating systems software and hardware
- Monitor systems and serve as a focal point for routine support of systems
Evaluate, customize and maintain operating systems including installing and testing new releases
Monitor and evaluate operating efficiency, analyze performance and tuning and assist in capacity planning
Analyze information systems problems to identify and correct problem areas while maintaining records, inventories and technical documentation
Review, evaluate and recommend new or upgraded systems software packages and related hardware, based on established standards
Follow established procedures required for efficient management of the infrastructure
Install new or enhanced applications and/or hardware; assist in the installation of servers
Manage medium enterprise projects according to division standards and requirements
Serve as a subject matter expert within one's area of responsibility regarding information systems infrastructure
Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with the established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the public and the environment
Take actions necessary to stop work when an unsafe condition or action is identified, every employee has the right and responsibility to stop work when unsafe conditions or actions are identified
US Citizenship (Capable of obtaining and maintaining a government security clearance)
Bachelor's degree in the field of Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering or Physical Science (with a minimum of 24 semester hours of computer-related courses) or equivalent work experience
Experienced professional with more than 3 years of practical, demonstrated experience in a Systems Engineer role with exposure to the concepts of high availability, clustering, load balancing, backup and recovery, web services, application servers, database systems and cyber security design measures and demonstrated ability to apply them appropriately to business requirements
Proficiency with scripting or programming language(s) (e.g. PERL, C, VB, Python, etc.)
Specific knowledge of the platform, operating systems, and protocols to be supported including Microsoft Windows Active Directory (2003 minimal), Windows XP and 2007, Cisco, NAS/SAN storage architecture, Exchange, Sharepoint Administration, virtualization, TCP/IP and general server hardware
Practical experience with Microsoft Active Directory (2008)
Microsoft and Cisco Certifications desired
Demonstrated communication skills to collaborate with IT, vendors and customers
Advanced experience with and knowledge of cyber security design measures
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with industry standards
Ability to work without supervision and given latitude for independent action
Demonstrated ability to manage projects in an organized manner to achieve results
Demonstrated skill in programming languages to support database, web and application administration highly desirable
Demonstrated ability in installation, configuration and administration of portals, firewall's, virtual private networks, terminal services, authentication and authorization
Knowledge/Experience with SQL
