Position Title: Packaging Engineer
Location: Ormond Beach, FL
Reports To: Sr. Technicial Manager

Primary Purpose of this position:
Serve as the packaging engineer for the Ormond Beach facility. Serve as a
packaging contact in support of cost savings, innovation and business continuity
(support) projects. Understanding the process capability and capacity as it
relates to packaging configuations and constraints. Will serve as a contributing
member of cross functional business teams. Support the development of product
concepts and concept feasibility as it relates to the capability of the
packaging and equipment processes.

Essential Functions:
• Optimize and improve existing packaging equipment and package designs at the
OB facility. Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, R&D, and
Engineering for continuous improvement of all existing packaging aspects and
designs.
• Identify, source, purchase and qualify change parts as required, for new
packages running on existing equipment.
• Evaluate appropriate packaging technologies and recommend equipment to produce
the desired results for new product/package forms.
• Liaison and manage assigned Package Development projects, working with
corporate Packaging Development, Brand and project teams, to meet category
objectives and project ship to trade dates.
• Hold discussions during product team meetings, communicate technical issues
and details to the project team and management.
• Provide technical input to package design process and assure package designed
for manufacturing acceptability, while realizing desirable aesthetic elements.
• Execute new package designs and perform package component testing and
qualification, working with suppliers, from engineering prints to making models
& prototypes, through to unit and production tooling. Coordinate line
trials.
• Work effectively with Package Development, Equipment Suppliers, and
Manufacturing to assure the timely communication of equipment functional
specifications. Equipment tolerances, line capability, etc.
• Review and approve package manuals and site package assembly specifications in
Agile. Approve Go2Market tasks as they relate to package feasibility for Ormond
Beach
• Develop strong relationships and communicate effectively with Brand Managers,
Product Development, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Suppliers, and EPC
global counterparts, as they relate to Ormond Beach projects.
• Keep abreast of developments across appropriate packaging/filling
manufacturing technologies.
• Assist Package Development with Ormond Beach packaging options. Recommend ways
to engineer/test packaging components and modify as necessary to meet: cost
targets, consumer requirements, functional parameters, and manufacturing and
shipping requirements.

Experience/Education Required:
• BS or MS in Mechanical, Package or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent degree.
• Minimum of 2 years of package development experience required, ideally with
consumer products companies.
• Knowledge of packaging components and properties such as; aerosols, pumps,
closures, bottles, tubes,, shrink wrap, labeling techniques, flexible films and
lamination, paperboard (folding cartons, cards, labels) plastic processing
(injection and extrusion blow molding and cast and blown films).
• Experience dealing with packaging component suppliers.
• Experience with standard test methods as ASTM, GMPs OTC test and protocols.

Skills and Abilities :
• Must have the ability to develop and implement schedules and ensure that
engineering procedures are followed.
• Must have the ability to manage assigned projects, monitoring the status of
all elements affecting the outcome of the program.
• Must have the ability to clearly communicate technical and non-technical
information via verbal presentation and in writing with management, team members
and support personnel.
• Must be able to effectively organize and manage workflow of multiple projects
and priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Must be able to demonstrate a general understanding of project management to
realize the order, importance, and impact of appropriate project activities and
maintain Packaging commitments to project scheduling.
• Must be able to work effectively with regional and/or global teams composed of
individuals with technical and non-technical backgrounds
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, Access/databases e-mail and internet
• Ability to think and act independently and make sound decisions.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrates the core competencies of influence, teamwork, iniative,
collaboration, customer focus , and achieving results.
• Basic knowledge in principles of liquid filling and packaging.
• Good technical understanding of mechanical skills.
• Experience and knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma principles or techniques is
desired.
• Experience in FDA regulated environment desired.
